Two Metro Detroit activists to be awarded for peace efforts

Wayne State's Center for Peace and Conflict studies will present its Community Peacemaker Award to Ron Amen of the Arab American National Museum, the Palestine Office-Michigan and the Office of Interfaith Outreach at the Islamic Center of America. The presentation will be made May 14 during a reception at the Next Energy building in TechTown. Amen credits a course he took at Wayne State 10 years ago for putting him "on the path of taking a more aggressive stance toward the idea that there are other ways to solve problems. . . ."

Fans can meet LuPone, Patinkin during Detroit visit

The Broadway, film and television singer-dancer-actor duo Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin will answer questions during a free Q&A session open to the public from 2:30 p.m. to approximately 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wayne State University\'s Schaver Music Recital Hall. They\'re touring nationally with their stage show "An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin" which runs for six shows at the Fisher Theatre from Tuesday through Sunday.

WSU researcher develops pervasive sensor net for next Internet

A Wayne State University Researcher Hongwei Zhang has received $127,874 from the National Science Foundation to develop the framework for a network that connects pervasive, embedded sensors that are highly diverse in function, with the ultimate goal of communicating information directly to the Internet. The network sensors, which can be placed virtually anywhere, can detect light levels, temperature, biochemical agents, traffic conditions and many other facts, enabling a wide range of potential applications. The aim is to connect the sensors with each other and directly to the Internet, so that the information is instantly accessible from anywhere, anytime.

Hills residents receive teaching and research awards

Wayne State University School of Business Administration selected two Farmington Hills residents for teaching and research awards. Mbodja Mougoue, professor of finance, received a Distinguished Teacher award. The annual teaching award recognizes a faculty member for outstanding contributions to management education. Alan Reinstein, professor of accounting, received a Distinguished Research award. The annual research award recognizes a faculty member for outstanding research contributions.
