Macomb-Oakland INCubator joins network

TechTown has partnered with Automation Alley, Ann Arbor SPARK and Macomb Community College/Oakland University Business Incubator to launch a new collaborative group formed to support business development throughout the region. The four business accelerators have received a $3 million grant from the New Economy Initiative, which is pushing to rebuild the Detroit area's economic base. "Each business accelerator has developed particular strengths, and by sharing them, we will all be stronger," said Randal Charlton, executive director of TechTown.

Valerie Parisi named dean at Wayne State University medical school for three-year term

After nearly a year as interim dean, Dr. Valerie Parisi has been elevated to full dean of the Wayne State University School of Medicine. "Valerie has done an outstanding job of building relationships within the School of Medicine and throughout Wayne State, as well as with other health-care organizations in the community," said President Jay Noren. During the past year, Parisi has led talks for a closer partnership with the Henry Ford Health System and completed contracts for medical students, residency programs and clinical services at DMC.

Panel to recommend new options for State Library

Mike Smith, director of Wayne State University's Walter Reuther Library and vice-chair of Governor Granholm's committee for a \"Michigan Center for Innovation and Reinvention\" in downtown Lansing, commented in a story about the project. The Governor asked the committee to develop recommendations towards \"re-purposing\" the state library building and possibly shutting down part or all of the facility. Smith says more than any other place in Michigan, this is the people\'s building.
