Phenytoin injection should stay on the market, FDA panels recommend
A joint panel of experts has told the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in no uncertain terms that intravenous (IV) phenytoin, used to treat epileptic seizures, should remain on the market despite safety concerns, including fears that it causes the condition known as purple glove syndrome. Dr. William M. Coplin, Wayne State's School of Medicine, said that the cases of purple glove syndrome, although they are rare, \"have gotten all the press.\"
