Woman beats the drums at WSU for a new marching band

A prominent feature story discussed the return of Wayne State University's marching band. Recently hired marching band director Janet Wright-McCaskill said she expects to have the rudiments of the band in the stadium\'s stands this fall, with a full contingent marching on the field by next season. More than 500 students answered a university e-mail saying they might be interested in joining the band. Wayne State University President Jay Noren envisions the band playing in the campus malls on Fridays and whipping up a game-day fan frenzy. A marching band energizes a campus and engages students. And that, Noren said, means students are more likely to stick around and graduate. A photo gallery of archival images and a 1968 album cut are provided along with contact information.

COMPLIANCE WATCH: Morgan Keegan asks court to vacate awards

Morgan Keegan, a regional brokerage firm, has faced a flood of claims by investors who were hit by sizable losses in 2007 and 2008 in seven funds that made bets in debt and other mortgage-related holdings. Federal arbitration law gives parties the right to appeal awards only under very limited circumstances. Appeals are very difficult to win, and thus rarely are made, said Peter Henning, professor of law at Wayne State University.
