Wayne State prof's paper offers new understanding of disease

A story highlights the research of Wayne State assistant chemistry professor David Rueda. Published in the October 13 issue of Nature, Rueda's study found that a partnering between a protein-editing enzyme and its protein cousin helps shape the mechanism underlying infections such as Hepatitis C and diseases such as Alzheimer's. Co-authors included graduate research assistant Krishanthi Karunatilaka and postdoctoral fellow Amanda Solem, both in WSU's Department of Chemistry.

Detroit to get first U.S. patent satellite office

Ultrasound in Medical Schools: Smaller, Cheaper, Better for Students

Chronicle of Higher Education, 12/16 Wayne State University\'s School of Medicine has integrated ultrasound training into its first-year curriculum using 30 portable units that GE Healthcare donated in 2006. During a session this fall, the entire first-year class took turns scanning one another\'s hands and carotid arteries. Scott A. Dulchavsky, professor of surgery at Wayne State, has also demonstrated the use of pocket ultrasounds and says he\'s experimenting with a version that hooks up to his cellphone.

Task force to study how Michigan picks appellate court judges

Henry Ford Hospital, Wayne State sign med school agreement

Henry Ford Hospital is striking a deal to host more medical students from Wayne State University. The hospital will nearly double its contingent from Wayne State as part of the new 5-year deal. \"This is a much larger arrangement,\" says Dr. Valerie Parisi, dean of Wayne State University\'s School of Medicine. \"It\'s also a much longer relationship. It\'s a really big thing for us.\" Wayne State\'s School of Medicine is the largest in the country with about 1,200 students.
