'Stereotypes and Women in Medicine: How Do We Overcome Them?' set for Feb. 21

The Wayne State University School of Medicine Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development will present “Stereotypes and Women in Medicine: How Do We Overcome Them?” part of its series on implicit bias, on Feb. 21.

Participants will learn about stereotypes and stereotype threat, the fear of confirming in oneself a negative stereotype due to performance on difficult or self-evaluative tasks. They will also learn the relationship between stereotypes and implicit bias, as well as the negative effects of stereotype threat on performance and how to implement anti-stereotype threat initiatives to reduce and eliminate those negative effects.
