Join the Women in Medicine and Science advisory committee

The Wayne State University School of Medicine Women in Medicine and Science Advisory Committee is seeking three additional members to join its committee. The WIMS Advisory Committee meets the fourth Monday of odd months from noon to 1 p.m. at the medical school. By expanding its team, the committee strives to gain broader representation across the faculty to increase outreach efforts to not only faculty, but also fellows, residents and students.

The organization was founded in 2013 to create a support system for women faculty with the goal of building professional networking and mentorship opportunities to advance women’s successful participation in academic medicine. Consideration for membership on the WIMS Advisory Committee will be by self-nomination. Nominees should have a record of attending WIMS-hosted events and other WIMS-related activities in previous years.

Committee members are expected to be present for at least 50% of advisory committee meetings (six per year) and 50% of monthly events (six per year). Monthly events usually consist of speakers brought in by WIMS to speak at the School of Medicine about an area of interest to members.

Committee members are expected to organize one WIMS event each year and make a presentation related to workforce issues every other year. The term to serve on the committee is two years, and is automatically renewed if the committee member is active.

Please provide on a copy of a current CV and a brief paragraph outlining why you wish to serve on the committee and past record of engagement in gender equity issues and WIMS-sponsored activities. Please email these documents to amessman@med.wayne.edu by Aug. 31. Decisions will be made by Sept. 30. For questions or additional information regarding the WIMS program, contact WIMS Chair Beena Sood, M.D., at bsood@med.wayne.edu
