DETROIT — Dr. Sharon Milberger, director of the Michigan Developmental Disabilities Institute (MI-DDI) at Wayne State, was recently elected to the Board of Directors of MI-DDI’s national association, the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD).
AUCD is a membership organization that supports and promotes a national network of university-based interdisciplinary programs, including MI-DDI. These programs are located in every U.S. state and territory and are all part of universities or medical centers. They serve as a bridge between the university and the community, bringing together the resources of both to achieve meaningful change. Milberger has served as the director of Michigan’s university center since 2016.
Milberger will begin a three-year term alongside Dr. Marcia Moriarta, director of University of New Mexico’s Center for Development and Disability, with both serving as at-large members.
The nomination was reached by a voting consensus of their peers and approved by AUCD nominating committee chair and board president.
About MI-DDI: MI-DDI’s mission is to contribute to the development of inclusive communities and quality of life for people with disabilities and their families. This is done through a culturally sensitive statewide program of training and education, community support and services, research, and information development and sharing.
