DETROIT — “Colors of Detroit”, a WDET 101.9FM and Concert of Colors benefit gala, will be held at the Motown Mansion on Friday, December 1 at 6:30 p.m.  The evening will feature local Detroit entertainment and show-stopping cuisine from some of the area’s best chefs in the iconic, historic Boston-Edison neighborhood estate.

“'Colors of Detroit’ is a first for Concert of Colors and WDET,” said Mary Zatina, WDET General Manager and member of the Concert of Colors Advocacy Board. “We are both non-profit organizations dedicated to the rich multiculturalism and diversity that defines Detroit’s music, arts and culture.”

The Motown Mansion, former home of Motown Records founder Berry Gordy and now owned by renowned arts consultant Alan Brown will be open for guests to see a bit of Motown’s past while enjoying the evening’s programming that will feature a live to tape recording of The Don Was Motor City Playlist with Don Was and Ann Delisi, a live performance by Bomba group Rican Struction and DJ sets by WDET music hosts Ismael Ahmed and Nick Austin, a silent auction, and strolling heavy appetizers served in the Zen pool house, the basement ballroom and the dining room. Appetizers are being crafted by some of Detroit's most celebrated chefs:

“We have planned an experience of a lifetime! Our Colors of Detroit guests will not only spend an evening at the beautiful Motown Mansion, steeped in its stories and Detroit’s musical heritage but also be entertained throughout the home with an array of music and food which represent today’s top talent,” said Ismael Ahmed, Concert of Colors Founder and Programmer and WDET host of This Island Earth. “At the heart of Concert of Colors and WDET organizations, we both honor Detroit’s roots while also helping people discover what’s exceptional and here for them today.”

“WDET has been providing non-profit radio in the city for almost 75 years and Concert of Colors has presented its multi-day, free global music festival to Midtown Detroit for over 31 years,” said Ken Fischer, President Emeritus of the University Musical Society and Concert of Colors Advisory Board Chair. “They are focused on bringing uniquely Detroit perspectives to audiences. The scope of their engagement means the best local talent is elevated for Detroit to enjoy but also to bring Detroit’s influence on music and the arts. Detroit benefits greatly from their organizations and this benefit will bring financial support to their programs and initiatives.”
