Wayne State Magazine wins 2022 Circle of Excellence Award Gold Medal from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education

Wayne State Magazine has been named the Gold Medal Winner for Alumni Magazines by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education 2022 Circle of Excellence Awards.

CASE’s Circle of Excellence Awards are the premier recognition program for educational advancement. These peer-selected and adjudicated awards honor colleges, universities, and schools worldwide whose talented staff have advanced their organizations with resourcefulness and ingenuity.

The edition marked a historical first in the magazine's 80-plus year history when an original piece of art was commissioned for the cover and created by renowned Detroit portrait artist and WSU alumna Desiree Kelly '11.

Wayne State Magazine received the gold medal designation for its Spring/Summer 2021 edition.

The magazine was noted by judges as  “an exemplar for its gorgeous photography, great stories, and strong layout and design. Every article engaged us, and so did the intentional composition of the photographs. The magazine conveys a vibrant spirit in its design, story mix, and fresh writing.”

Wayne State Magazine is produced twice a year by the WSU Alumni Association, under the direction of executive editor Annessa Morley.

”This award is a testament to our alumni. Wayne State Warriors are an impressive bunch, and it is a pleasure to be able to continue to share their stories through the magazine,” Morley said. “It is an honor to be recognized by our peers as one of the best storytellers in the world.”

In 2022, CASE received more than 4,500 entries from 636 institutions in nearly 30 countries. Of those, volunteer judges named 626 exemplary entries for bronze, silver, gold, or Grand Gold recognition.

“Our CASE Circle of Excellence Awards celebrate the creative, resourceful, and innovative ways advancement professionals around the globe champion their institutions’ success,” says CASE President and CEO Sue Cunningham.

The WSU Alumni Association is the community for more than 294,000 alumni of Wayne State University in Detroit.
