Top 5 reasons to register for spring/summer classes

From longer days and shorter terms to Wayne State’s Spring/Summer Tuition Break, there are plenty of reasons to spend your summer learning. Registration for spring/summer classes is now open

In keeping with the university's efforts to keep the campus community safe during the coronavirus pandemic, the upcoming spring semester (May 10 through June 29) and spring/summer semester (May 10 through July 30) courses will be offered via online or remote instruction only. Details for summer semester courses (June 30 through Aug. 20) have not yet been finalized. Students should note that not all courses currently reflect the change to online and remote instruction; the Registrar's Office is working to update class listings.

Online resources are available through the Learn Anywhere platform, as well as other programs and initiatives to support students’ success. Spring/summer courses fill quickly, so students are encouraged to meet with their advisor virtually to determine eligibility and plan their academic schedule.

Here are five great reasons to take a spring/summer class: 

1. Save time and money

Taking classes year-round is a great way to graduate sooner, make up a class and save money. Through WSU’s Spring/Summer Tuition Break, eligible students can receive a 30% tuition discount on spring/summer classes.

2. Broaden your horizons 

Spring/summer is the perfect time to focus on gaining experiences that will help you grow. Consider taking an elective outside your major. You never know what you might learn!

3. Keep your brain active

Taking a class during spring/summer will help you stay sharp, ensuring there will be no need to dust off the cobwebs and get back into the routine of studying once the fall semester starts.

4. Shorter, more flexible terms

Spring/summer classes range in duration from 7 to 12 weeks, rather than the traditional 16-week terms offered in fall and winter. Shorter terms mean more flexibility for your schedule — you’ll still have plenty of time for other commitments.

5. Stay on track — or get ahead

Taking classes year-round is a great way to graduate sooner or to make up a class so you can stay on track. If there’s a tough class on your horizon, consider take it during spring/summer. With longer days and shorter semesters, you’ll be able to focus on buckling down and checking that course off your required list.
