Swearing-in ceremony for new U.S. citizens scheduled for Sept. 17 during Wayne State University’s Civic Festival and Constitution Day

WHAT:

Wayne State University’s fifth annual Civic Festival and Constitution Day, which includes a naturalization ceremony arranged by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

The campus festival, sponsored by Wayne State’s Center for the Study of Citizenship and lead sponsor MGM Grand Detroit, is open to students and the public. The theme of this year’s program is community engagement, and is designed to encourage students to get involved in campus, community and political activities.

WHEN:

Constitution Day and Civic Festival: 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Swearing-in ceremony: 11 a.m.

WHERE:

Fountain Court on Gullen Mall. Located north of Warren Avenue, between Third and Cass, on the east side of the David Adamany Undergraduate Library. 

MORE INFO:

U.S. District Judge Mark Goldsmith will conduct the swearing-in ceremony for new U.S. citizens.

  • Featuring D.J. Peter Croce and several local civic organizations
  • A special Naturalization Ceremony will kick off the festival at 11 a.m. featuring the Cass Tech JROTC
  • Welcoming remarks by Wayne State University Provost Keith Whitfield
  • Keynote address by Wayne County Executive Warren Evans

Event partners include: Center for the Study of Citizenship, Dean of Students Office, Division of Government and Community Affairs, Office of Economic Development, Wayne County, and Wayne State University Libraries.
