Inaugural Chairs Summer Leadership Institute set for July 10-11

Wayne State University will host its inaugural Chairs Summer Leadership Institute on campus July 10-11. The institute is a two-day leadership development program designed for department chairs and associate chairs. The program will provide training in four areas: processes and procedures, department culture and climate, developing others and developing self. RSVP here

“Chairs and associate chairs from across campus have told us that they value coming together to share knowledge and learn new ways to be more effective and support their faculty, staff and students. This institute provides a unique opportunity for new and experienced chairs to grow their skills,” said Annmarie Cano, associate provost for faculty success and faculty development. “It’s important for our department chairs to know that they are supported on campus — by their peers and the Office of the Provost.”

The program is co-facilitated by Cano and Boris Baltes, associate provost for faculty affairs. Experts from across campus will share strategies and tips to navigate promotion, tenure/ESS and salary review processes, enhance faculty and staff recognition and career development, build healthy department cultures that value the contributions of all faculty and staff, and take charge of one’s own career, including understanding possible career trajectories.
