Garrett was promoted to the position in February, after helping to guide OMSE for more than two years.

“The Student Service Center is where solutions start for students as they navigate admissions, financial aid, records, registration and student accounts receivable,” Garrett noted. “I'll aim to seek creative and innovative ways to truly put our students at the center of what we do. We will look to offer an equitable quality of service that is both educational and helpful in moving our students closer to graduation.”

Garrett also previously served as a community director at the Wayne State Office of Housing and Residential Life.

“Throughout her time at Wayne State, in every post she’s held, Latonia has been a powerful and positive force for change and has remained committed to putting students first,” said Dawn Medley, associate vice president for Enrollment Management. “We’re pleased and honored to have her assume oversight of the Student Service Center precisely because of that commitment.”

Prior to coming to WSU, Garrett earned a Master of Education in College Student Personal & Counseling Services from the University of Southern Mississippi. Before that, she studied journalism at Oakland University.

Located on the first floor of the Wayne State University Welcome Center, the Student Service Center is a one-stop shop for answers to questions from students, parents and anyone interested in Wayne State University.
