Register for the Baroudeur before price increases on June 20

The Baroudeur, Wayne State University’s annual cycling event in support of student scholarships, is fast approaching on Saturday, Aug. 18. If you are planning to ride, you still have time to take advantage of the $60 early bird rate. The cost to register will increase to $70 beginning next Wednesday, June 20. Registration is now open online.

This year, there are expanded route options to choose from — 20, 37, 62 or 100 miles — based on your experience and fitness level. When registering, cyclists are encouraged to create or join a fundraising team that will benefit either the general student scholarship fund or scholarships within a school or college. Your registration fee includes lunch, two tickets for beer, refreshments along the route, a limited edition T-shirt, ride support, free parking and the gratitude of the Warrior community.

The Baroudeur has grown each year, and in 2017 we welcomed 1,000 cyclists to our campus with the help of nearly 300 volunteers and our generous sponsors. Last year’s event raised more than $10,000 for student scholarships and the HIGH Program.

Baroudeur after partyWhether or not you’re a cyclist, there are many ways to support the Baroudeur:

  • Help fundraise with Crowdrise: The Baroudeur has partnered with Crowdrise to make fundraising easy. Cyclists can create or join a team during registration, and non-cyclists can create or join a team using the event’s Crowdrise page. For more information about teams, or if you’d like help creating or joining one, please contact Katie McMillan at katie.mcmillan@wayne.edu or 313-577-8094.
  • Volunteer: The Baroudeur would not be possible without the support of dedicated volunteers, and there are numerous volunteer shifts and opportunities to contribute to the event. Participating in the Baroudeur also counts toward the Warrior 150 Challenge, which asks the campus community to perform 150,000 volunteer hours by the end of 2018 to commemorate WSU’s 150th year in Detroit. Volunteers receive lunch, two tickets for beer, refreshments, free parking and the gratitude of the Warrior community. To volunteer, please sign up online.
