Wayne State University has two experts who can speak to the crisis communications issues surrounding the mass shooting in Las Vegas, and hurricanes in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico.
Matt Seeger is a professor and dean of the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts. His research concerns crisis and risk communication; health promotion and communication; crisis response and agency coordination; the role of media, including new media, crisis and communication ethics; failure of complex systems; and post-crisis renewal. He specializes in emergency risk communication.

Lee Wilkins, professor and chair of the Department of Communication, teaches and studies media ethics and media coverage of hazards and disasters. She is co-author of one of the most widely used college media ethics texts, Media Ethics: Issues and Cases, in its eighth edition, and has written books and scholarly articles on how journalists and public relations professionals make moral decisions.
