WHAT:
Wayne State University is hosting its first STEM Day, which is expected to bring 1,000 middle school students and teachers to campus. The free half-day program — featuring sixth- through ninth-grade students — is designed to bring the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics to life through hands-on interactive sessions, including:
- Fire tornados
- Seaweed tissue repair
- Planetarium shows
- Liquid nitrogen ice cream
- Walking on water
- In celebration of Pi Day, WSU is partnering with the Grand Traverse Pie Company to host a “Pi Off” event. Participants will go head-to-head with College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean Wayne Raskind. Those who recite Pi to the furthest digit will be rewarded with pie.
*Due to an overwhelming response, every session has been filled to capacity and no further reservations will be accepted.

10:45 a.m. – Break; walk to next session
11:05 a.m. – Activity II begins
12:15 p.m. – Optional lunch or campus tour
