Four promising Wayne State student businesses will compete for up to $5,000 in startup capital in the 2016 Warrior Fund Finals Dec. 9. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the WSU College of Engineering, room 1507, 5050 Anthony Wayne Drive in Detroit. The Warrior Fund is a program of Innovation Warriors, Wayne State’s entrepreneurship hub. All businesses competing in the Warrior Fund competition have received consulting through Innovation Warriors’ Blackstone LaunchPad program.

The four finalists and their products are:

It Comes Naturally: All-natural, itch-free mosquito repellent.

MySwimPro: An app that serves as a virtual coach to help advanced and competitive swimmers set goals and practice.

CAFE Clutch: A one-way automotive clutch that saves fuel and energy.

Enbiologics: A veterinary medical gel for wound care.

Up to three businesses will receive awards. Judges for the competition represent some of Detroit’s top companies, investors and business support organizations, including Comerica, Solidea Capital, Invest Detroit, Automation Alley and NextEnergy.

“Since 2012, the Warrior Fund has been helping to launch some of the most successful student startups in the city,” said Aubrey Agee, acting director of Innovation Warriors. “We look forward to kickstarting another round of businesses and helping them grow and succeed well beyond the award.”

Past Warrior Fund winners include Pristine Impressions, Pro:Up, Detroit Horse Power, Eli Tea and Dynamic Wealth Solutions.

The Warrior Fund is sponsored by Comerica Bank, which is committed to seeing startups succeed within the city of Detroit and Southeast Michigan.
