Wayne State among top universities devoted to scientific research

Wayne State University has been ranked 207th among the top 500 universities worldwide devoted to scientific research, according to a recently released report by National Taiwan University (NTU).

The ranking program — known as Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities — is entirely based on scientific papers, reflecting scientific performance from three perspectives: research productivity, research impact and research excellence.

“This ranking clearly demonstrates Wayne State’s strong research value and the productivity of our faculty,” said Provost Keith E. Whitfield. “This ranking also enhances global awareness of Wayne State and the many contributions of our researchers and faculty to the health sciences and STEM disciplines.”

Field area rankings for Wayne State included:

  • Clinical medicine (138)
  • Social sciences (160)
  • Life sciences (194)
  • Natural sciences (264)

Subject area rankings for Wayne State included:

  • Pharmacology and toxicology (126)
  • Physics (207)
  • Mathematics (235)
  • Computer science (273)
  • Electrical engineering (296)
