BEST program to hold annual orientation for Ph.D. faculty, students

On Sept. 14, the Broadening Experiences in Scientific Training (BEST) program will hold its annual orientation from 4-6 p.m. in the Margherio Family Conference Center on Wayne State’s School of Medicine campus.

The orientation will be student-centered. After a brief introduction by program staff, a team of BEST participants will share their experiences and lead small group discussions with attendees. During the following week (Sept. 19-23), a set of five panel discussions addressing careers in business, government, law, undergraduate teaching, or communication will be offered, again in Margherio Family Conference Center from 4-6 p.m.

Although these events are geared toward doctoral students in the biomed and life sciences, all Ph.D. students and faculty members in any discipline are welcome to attend. There will be pizza and beverages for everyone, and also a raffle for $25 Amazon gift cards.

All of these events are free, but students and faculty members should register. For more information, contact BEST Program Manager Heidi Kenaga at BEST@wayne.edu or call 313-577-5499. Also, visit the BEST website or blog.
