The James Pearson Duffy Department of Art and Art History at Wayne State University is providing mobile art workshops at community sites in Detroit July 25 through Aug. 10. Students from the Carr Center Youth Jazz Ensemble will perform during the workshops.
Workshop participants will learn about abstract art and basic 2-D design fundamentals. A collaborative, abstract artwork will be created at each location using reclaimed paint and everyday objects. All materials will be provided by WSU.
The artworks created during the mobile workshops will be exhibited in the department's Art Department Gallery on campus Sept. 2 through 30. Also included in the exhibition will be artworks created during community workshops held at LA SED Senior Center, Southwest Detroit and WSU. There will be a public reception for the exhibition on Friday, Sept. 16, from 5 to 8 p.m.
The mobile art workshops are an annual collaboration between the James Pearson Duffy Department of Art and Art History, The Carr Center and the Detroit Parks and Recreation Department.
