WarriorFunder, Wayne State's official crowdfunding platform, is approaching its Friday, July 15 deadline for the pilot cycle of campaigns.

WarriorFunder enables students, alumni, friends, faculty and staff to make a collective impact at WSU by donating directly to projects that are most meaningful to them. With crowdfunding, the campus community has an opportunity to navigate fundraising goals through creative media, teamwork and social media.

As the July 15 deadline approaches, each WarriorFunder project has reached a crucial point in their respective fundraising efforts and is looking for support to reach the finish line. Projects include: Warrior Marching Band, intending to purchase green uniform sashes; Wayne State University Dance Team, seeking to attend National Dance Alliance Training Camp this summer; and the Student Center, raising funds for a display case to celebrate the paper airplanes of generations past.

Kaithlin Fettes, coach of WSU's dance team, said the WarriorFunder project has been a great fundraising experience.

"As a new team to Wayne State, we are still trying to manage our reach on campus," Fettes said. "Social media has been so helpful in spreading the word about our camp goals. It's been great to get the dance team name out there and share our project with people we wouldn't have reached otherwise."

The pilot campaigns pave a brand new path for students, faculty and staff to fundraise for their projects of passion. All of the projects have had success in reaching donors through Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, as well as connecting to alumni who have their own fond memories of Wayne State student life.

Anyone can make a gift by choosing their desired project, clicking "pledge support," and entering a gift at any amount. Donors can also show their support by clicking "share" to spread the word through Facebook and Twitter.

WarriorFunder is looking forward to working with future groups and organizations across campus as the fall semester approaches. Applications for the fall 2016 cycle (running September through November) will be accepted and reviewed in August. Interested groups and organizations can apply online or email Kristine Sholty, social media/communications officer, at warriorfunder@wayne.edu with any questions.
