Parking Lot 12 to receive improvements this summer

Wayne State's Board of Governors has approved funding to complete improvements to Parking Lot 12, located at 6000 Woodward Avenue, across from the Integrative Biosciences

Wayne State's Board of Governors has approved funding to complete improvements to Parking Lot 12, located at 6000 Woodward Avenue, across from the Integrative Biosciences Center (IBio). Construction will begin soon and is expected to be completed by the start of the fall semester.

The expected scope of the project includes new underground drainage; contouring and subsurface grading; new asphalt paving, including striping; landscaped islands; additional lighting; and parking gate equipment.

Ornamental fencing consistent with styles at other university surface lots also will be installed around the lot.

According to Jonathan Frederick, parking and transportation director, the 54,000-square-foot lot will provide approximately 129 parking spaces for use by Wayne State students, employees and visitors. Normal parking rates will apply and may be paid through the WSU OneCard, credit card or permit holders.

"Lot 12 is a strategically important location, considering its proximity to both IBio and TechTown, as well as other points of interest in the university's north area," Frederick said. "We are pleased to offer an additional modern and secure parking area for the campus community and visitors."

Wayne State's current parking system includes eight structures and 44 surface lots, providing approximately 13,000 spaces throughout the campus. The Parking and Transportation Services Department manages all of the lots and may be contacted at parking@wayne.edu or by phone at 313-577-1979.
