Wayne State University experts available to comment on a myriad of Valentine's Day themes

The following Wayne State University experts are available to provide commentary and analysis for a variety of Valentine's Day topics such as technology's beneficial use with long-distance relationships, the pros of double-dating to help a stagnate relationship and how early dating experiences are related to adolescents' adjustment.

Valerie Simon, assistant professor of Psychology at WSU and the Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute for Child and Family Development -- Simon examines the development of adolescents' peer relationships and sexuality from a developmental psychopathology framework. Her work focuses on a myriad of factors that affect adolescents' romantic and sexual development.

Richard B. Slatcher, associate professor of Psychology in Wayne State's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences -- Slatcher can comment on close relationships and their impact on health from a social psychological perspective. Some of his previous research found that integrating other couples into their social life can make couples feel more passionate toward their own romantic partners.

Katheryn Maguire, associate professor of Communication in the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts -- Maguire's research centers on how individuals and families use communication to cope with stress and maintain relationships in several contexts, including military deployments, long-distance romances and transnational families.
