Wayne State's Global Festival celebrates cultural diversity on campus

  

Wayne State University's Global Festival will return to campus from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17. 

The 44th annual event, sponsored by the Office of Study Abroad and Global Programs and the Office of International Students and Scholars, is open to the public and includes cultural displays, entertainment, ethnic cuisine, an international bazaar and the Study Abroad Fair. Admission is free and food will be available for purchase.

More than 35 student groups, organizations and faculty members are expected to participate in the cultural extravaganza, which focuses on various countries and cultures.

"The Global Festival and Study Abroad Fair attract thousands of attendees each year," said Yuliya Harris, events, marketing and program coordinator for the Office of Study Abroad and Global Programs. "Students and others will have the chance to experience the food and culture of countries around the world as well as learn about educational opportunities in the represented regions." 

Wayne State is one of the most diverse college campuses in the state, with students from 60 countries. The university also is home to nearly 300 Brazilian students enrolled in an initiative sponsored by the Brazilian government to strengthen the South American nation's capacity in STEM majors.
