Labor@Wayne presents a discussion and book signing featuring author Bob Morris talking about his new book titled: "Built in Detroit: A Story of the UAW, a Company and a Gangster." Morris's book chronicles the early days of the UAW - the various internal battles and the terrible violence that affected UAW leaders.

The book is told through the eyes of author's father, Ken Morris, former UAW regional director. Readers will become acquainted with labor leaders of the 1930s through the 1950s, including Walter Reuther, Emil Mazey and many others.

With his father, Ken, playing a significant role in the rise of the union, Bob learned first-hand many untold stories, and knew the leaders of a generation when the Michigan labor movement was at its peak in the 1950s and 1960s. The author explores the beginning of the UAW, the battles with the companies, the union's internal struggles and the company-instigated violence that followed.
