Wayne State’s Wednesday Farmers Market begins its sixth season June 5, running weekly through Oct. 30 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., in front of the Prentis Building.
Presented by SEED Wayne, the market will feature fresh fruit and vegetables from local vendors and prepared items from such Midtown staples as Russell Street Deli, Avalon International Breads, Good Girls Go to Paris Crepes and more.
“It’s important for us to provide Wayne State and the Detroit community with an accessible place to buy fresh food within the city, and to educate people about fresh food options,” says SEED Wayne Director Kami Pothukuchi.
The market will again feature entertainment and monthly cooking demos. Additionally, SEED Wayne is partnering with WSU Wellness Warriors to provide a four-week nutrition program funded by the Michigan Nutrition Network. The program includes 30-minute sessions that educate participants about healthy city eating and living.
SEED Wayne works in partnership with community organizations to promote access to healthy foods, urban agriculture, food planning, policy development and healthy lifestyle choices. It embraces Wayne State’s core functions: teaching, research, engagement and operations. Other SEED Wayne projects can be found throughout campus and the Detroit community.
