Wayne State's Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance recently announced its 2013-2014 season, showcasing a mix of classic and modern plays.
And now it's time to celebrate.
The department will host the annual Subscriber Party and Open House at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at the Hilberry Theatre.
"The faculty, staff and students look forward to this event every year. This is our opportunity to express our sincere appreciation to the individuals we get to share quality theatre and dance with throughout the year," said John Wolf, Department of Theatre and Dance professor and chair. "This is a particularly important night not because of subscription renewal but because students have the opportunity to show their gratitude to our patrons who are fabulously committed to the department."
The free event includes light refreshments, a meet-and-greet with company members, and tours of the theatre and production center. Performances from the Wayne State University Acting Showcase begin at 3 p.m.
The showcase highlights the artistic talents of graduating actors, who recently demonstrated their skills to directors and talent agents looking for the next generation of actors on Broadway.
"Many of the subscribers have also supported our actors year after year by donating to their Acting Showcase, which gives them the chance to meet multiple agents in New York City and Detroit, helping them on their way to a successful career after they graduate," said Patrick Pozezinski, group sales and audience development manager.
The Hilberry Theatre has a taste of everything, from Shakespeare to comedy to the modern Tony Award-winning show August: Osage County. The Bonstelle Theatre will delight with titles such as 'Twas the Night Before Christmas and the classic musical Guys and Dolls.
Subscriptions start at $102. Appreciation gifts will be given to those who subscribe or renew.
