The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) and School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) at Wayne State University has announced the creation of two scholarships named for alumnus Ronald Raven (M. CLAS '73). Raven established both scholarships with gifts to Wayne State University.
The Ronald Raven Annual Scholarship benefits students enrolled in the Department of History, or with a history background, and who are taking the Archives Practicum course at the Walter P. Reuther Library. The Ronald Raven Endowed Scholarship assists similar students who are also completing the Graduate Certificate in Archival Administration through SLIS. The endowed scholarship will be funded in perpetuity.
Like the future scholarship recipients, Mr. Raven has a background in history and while working on his master’s in the early 1970s, was enrolled in the Archival Administration Curriculum, now called the Graduate Certificate in Archival Administration. Mr. Raven wants current and future students who are studying in this important program to receive the quality education he enjoyed.
“I would love to have someone else get the opportunity I had from such a wonderful program,” Mr. Raven says. “Although the media and methods of records creation and storage have changed over the decades, the same general principles apply to managing and preserving vital operational and historical records.”
For more information on these scholarship opportunities, prospective applicants should contact Dr. Marc Kruman, chair of the Department of History and professor of history at m.kruman@wayne.edu or Dr. Steven Bajjaly, associate dean and director, SLIS at dx1042@wayne.edu.
