Representatives from Gift of Life Michigan at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, will present Wayne State University with a trophy for inspiring the most people - 1,136 - to join the state's organ donor registry during the 2012 Gift of Life Campus Challenge. The ceremony will be held in the Bernath Auditorium inside the Undergraduate Library.

Many WSU students, faculty and staff were moved by the story of Rebecca Butler, a 20-year-old business student who died in May 2011 while awaiting a lung transplant.

Rebecca became a tissue donor, giving others the second chance that she did not receive. Her father, Tim Butler, a WSU associate professor of business, will serve as the master of ceremonies. Remonia Chapman, program director of Gift of Life's Minority Organ Tissue Transplant Education Program, will speak about the need for organ donors and present the trophy.

Thanks to the competition, more than 3,416 people across the state joined the registry. For the scores of participating schools, visit bit.ly/2012CampusChallenge.
