DETROIT - Wayne State University welcomes a third vehicle to its fleet of Zipcars on campus. Zipcar, the world's leading car-sharing network, launched at Wayne State this fall.

Jon Frederick, director of Parking and Transportation Services, said the program is exceeding the university's expectations. "I expected the program to take off, but I was shocked how quickly the demand compelled the need for a third vehicle. It is nice to see the cars around campus giving the WSU community another transportation option."

Wayne State's Zipcars - including two Ford Focus hatchbacks and a Ford Focus sedan - are located at parking structure # 8 on Forest Avenue and in parking lot #41 on Anthony Wayne Drive. Zipcars are self service and can be easily reserved and accessed 24 hours a day.

Participating Zipcar members with smartphones, including iPhones and Android devices, may download a mobile app to make reservations, lock and unlock the vehicles, as well as honk the horn to help locate the vehicles. Reservations can also be made over the phone or through the Zipcar website.

"We're extremely pleased with how the Zipcar program has taken off at Wayne State," said Zipcar representative Bill Connolly. "With a goal of delivering ‘wheels when you want them' to all of our members, we are always monitoring usage on campus to ensure we're keeping up with demand."
