Wayne State University Physician Group offers free depression and anxiety screenings

\"\"Rochester Hills, Mich. - In observance of World Mental Health Day on Monday, Oct. 10, Wayne State University Family Care, located in Rochester Hills, is offering free screenings to diagnose and treat individuals with anxiety and depression. As part of the screening, each participant will complete a questionnaire and consult privately with a WSU Family Care specialist.

Millions of Americans suffer from anxiety and depression annually. There is no single cause of depression; it is influenced by biochemical, psychosocial, environmental and genetic factors. Depression, when diagnosed, can be treated successfully through the use of prescription medication, lifestyle changes and/or psychotherapy.

Anxiety can result from numerous factors such as challenging jobs, relationships that have become strained, death of family or friends, or other stressful situations. Although it is common to experience anxiety due to these factors, it is not normal to have anxiety on a regular basis or to experience anxiety suddenly for no apparent reason. Anxiety disorders can be treated successfully, generally through the use of psychotherapy and medication.

The screenings will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, at Wayne State University Family Care, 1135 W. University Drive, Suite 250, Rochester Hills (in the Medical Office Building on the campus of Crittenton Hospital.)

There is no fee to participate. For more information or an appointment, call 248-650-6301. Walk-ins also will be accepted.
