Wayne State University\'s Humanities Center hosts Faculty Fellows Conference examining gender and sexuality

Wayne State University's Humanities Center will host its annual Faculty Fellows Conference on Friday, April 8, 2011, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the McGregor Memorial Conference Center, 495 Ferry Mall.

This year's conference examines issues of gender and sexuality and includes keynote lectures by Professor Michael Kimmel, a sociologist at Stony Brook University, and Professor Judith Roof, the William Shakespeare Chair in English at Rice University.

Kimmel will discuss topics from his book Guyland: The Perilous World Where Boys Become Men, and Roof will present "Rethinking Gender," exploring alternatives to the dominant concepts of gender from the past two decades.

In addition to the keynote speakers, seven Wayne State faculty members - winners of the 2010-11 Humanities Center faculty fellowships - will present at the symposium. These include Krista Brumley, Jaime Goodrich, Marsha L. Richmond, Xavier Livermon, Jennifer Moss, Anne Duggan and Annie Higgins.

The Humanities Center at Wayne State University is dedicated to promoting interdisciplinary research in the arts and humanities through the funding of faculty and student fellowships, grants and other awards.

The Faculty Fellows Conference is free and open to the public.
