Wayne State University offers substantial scholarship opportunities to qualified high school prospects during annual Scholars Day event

Each year, hundreds of Michigan high school students descend upon Wayne State University for Scholars Day, a series of invitation-only events during which the Irvin D. Reid Honors College recruits its freshman class from the university's most promising first-year applicants.

During the event, students participate in a group interview, campus tour and presentations aimed at showcasing how Wayne State can bolster their academic success. Every student who attends Scholars Day becomes a Wayne State scholar and receives a scholarship of $2,000 per year for four years. As a result of a small-group interview and review of a writing sample, as well as grade-point average and test scores, some students receive increased scholarship offers, up to a four-year, full-tuition Presidential Scholarship.

"Scholars Day celebrates the top students who have applied to Wayne State University," said Jerry Herron, dean, Honors College. "We look forward to having these fine young scholars - and their parents - as our guests so we can show them the best of what this great research university has to offer."

Scholars Day will take place at Wayne State University's main campus Feb. 5, 6, 12 and 13, 2011.

In order to receive an invitation, freshmen entering the university in the fall must have received a composite score of 21 or higher on the ACT and have a cumulative high school grade-point average of at least 3.50 at the end of their junior year in high school.
