DETROIT (April 20, 2010) - Wayne State University Law School students recently elected the 2010-2011 Student Board of Governors (SBG). They also voted Assistant Professor Christopher Lund first-year Professor of the Year and Associate Professor Noah Hall second-year Professor of the Year.

Students elected to the 2010-2011 board include: President Aisa Villarosa; Vice President Nadia Hamade; Secretary Michelle Ciaverilla; Treasurer Sarah Biedron; Student Council Representative Tom Smith; 2L Day Governors Charles Acolatse and Jessica Bajkowski; 2L Evening Governor Emily Thomas; 3L Day Governors Drew Mast and Sridevi Peravali; Governors-at-Large Mike Camaj, Paul Isso, Allison Kriger, Samantha Orvis, Julianna Rivera, Eleanor Ung, Mike VanOroder and Alyssa Yeip.

"My congratulations to all the new and returning members of the Student Board of Governors," said Wayne Law Dean Robert M. Ackerman. "The involvement and dedication of last year's board was outstanding and greatly benefited the Law School. The newly elected board includes a terrific group of student leaders as well. I appreciate their willingness to devote their time to making Wayne Law a better place, and I look forward to working with them in the coming year."

He added, "I would also like to congratulate professors Lund and Hall on being named Professors of the Year. They are excellent examples of the extraordinary faculty at Wayne Law. We are fortunate to be able call them our own."

The SBG meets every other week and encourages Wayne Law students to attend and voice their ideas and concerns. The board appoints law students to serve on several important student-faculty committees; publishes the student newspaper, The Advocate; and organizes school-wide and social charitable activities, such as blood drives, the Wayne Law Ambulance Chase, talent shows, mentoring programs and much more.

In addition to the above, last year the SBG also brought together a large number of student organizations to host town hall meetings that addressed diversity at the Law School and provided tips on responding to personal questions asked in an interview and on the job.
