TechTown forms alliance with the Michigan India Chamber of Commerce to serve Indian business community

DETROIT, June 5, 2008-TechTown is partnering with the Michigan India Chamber of Commerce (MIICC) to provide enhanced business and networking opportunities for the Asian Indian business community in the Metro Detroit area.

TechTown has committed to a 12 month partnership with the MIICC beginning June 1, 2008 to work on business promotion and incubation for Asian Indian businesses solely through the MIICC.

"India is one of the largest markets and trading partners in the world," TechTown director Randal Charlton said. "In today's global economy, small businesses can and do trade internationally from Day One. We seek to encourage TechTown companies to explore trade with India through this alliance with the MIICC."

As an alliance partner, the MIICC will be holding some of its monthly meetings and events at TechTown.

"The MIICC is excited to form this alliance with TechTown," MIICC President Nipa Shah said. "Our alliance will be a big step towards facilitating trade between India and Michigan. And with this alliance, we will help grow the Michigan economy by highlighting Michigan's and by providing them resources that TechTown will offer to businesses located in India."

TechTown, the Wayne State University Research and Technology Park, seeks to stimulate the entrepreneurial culture in Detroit and encourage job growth in Michigan by providing startup companies with essential resources like business plan assistance, market research, grant seeking and management, executive coaching, and office and lab space with flexible lease options. Through this alliance with the MIICC, TechTown will work to provide a "soft landing" for Indian companies interested in doing business in Michigan.

"TechTown is very pleased to partner with MIICC and extend its resources to provide a soft landing for the Indian Asian business community," TechTown assistant program director Ebony Johnson said. "The MIICC has displayed a passion for providing an open networking forum where those within and outside of the community can learn from each other. This alliance is one of many steps TechTown is taking to aide entrepreneurship among diverse cultures."
