Michael G. Wright has been appointed associate vice president for marketing and communications at Wayne State University. Andrea Roumell Dickson, executive vice president and chief of staff, announced the appointment following an extensive national search.

Wright, a Farmington Hills resident, comes to Wayne State with over 27 years of experience in marketing, communications and advertising, including a series of increasingly responsible positions at General Motors and Ford Motor Company. Immediately prior to joining WSU, he served as senior vice president and group account director for the Leo Burnett Detroit advertising agency.

“Michael has a proven track record in conceptualizing and implementing fully-integrated and effective marketing and communication plans. He also brings to the table a wealth of experience, extensive know-how, creative ideas and leadership skills,” said Dickson. “Michael is excited about joining our senior management team and eager to tackle a new set of challenges and opportunities.”

In his new role, Wright will be responsible for managing the Office of Marketing and Communications, which oversees marketing, public relations, media relations, advertising, publications production and Web activities on behalf of the university. Wright’s vision for Wayne State will be instrumental in reinforcing the university’s image as a world-class academic and research institution that is playing a vital role in the economic revitalization of Detroit and the State of Michigan.

Wright holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Eastern Michigan University and an MBA degree from the University of Michigan.

Wayne State University is a premier institution of higher education offering more than 350 academic programs through 11 schools and colleges to nearly 33,000 students.
