Chair of Wayne State Board of Governors, COO for Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan meet with high school seniors during Scholars Day(s) at Wayne State

Jacquelin Washington (second left), chair of the Wayne State University Board of Governors, and Mildred Matlock (right) chief operating officer for the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan and past president of the WSU Alumni Association, chat with high school seniors Amanda Cruz (left) of Troy and Khalil Sayied (second right) of Detroit. Cruz, a student at Troy High School, and Sayied, who attends Cass Tech in Detroit, have been accepted to Wayne State for the Fall 2006 term and were on campus recently for Scholars Day to learn more about the university. Each year, the university’s Honors Program invites about 1,000 students and their parents or guardians to campus for a day of interviews, presentations and tours. All students who attended qualify for scholarships valued at $6,000 over four years. Washington and Matlock, both of whom earned degrees at Wayne State, were among hundreds of volunteers who interviewed students in small groups to answer questions and to recommend some interviewees for increased scholarships.

Troy High School student accepted to Wayne State University meets chair of university’s Board of Governors

The annual event gives promising first-year applicants and their parents an opportunity to learn more about the university through presentations, tours and interviews with WSU representatives. All students who attended qualify for scholarships totaling $6,000 over four years, with an opportunity for increased scholarships. Washington has a master’s degree from Wayne State.

Franklin High student meets chair of Wayne State’s Board of Governors

Lamble, who attends Franklin High School, has been accepted to Wayne State for the Fall 2006 term.
