Detroiter joins national call to aid communities

Peter Lichtenberg, director of Wayne State 's Institute of Gerontology , commented in a story about the importance of volunteering to the overall well-being of older people. Lichtenberg said staying connected to others helps preserve older people's mental and physical health. "It reduces disability. People who volunteer have less mobility and falling issues, probably because they are more seeking out, 'How do I keep strong?'"
