Dynamic restaurateur Frank Taylor, owner of Seldom Blues and Detroit Breakfast House and Grill, will be featured during the Wayne State University Alumni Association’s Arthur L. Johnson Urban Perspectives Lecture on February 22.
Taylor, a 20-year veteran of the restaurant and hospitality industry, will discuss the triumphs and challenges of the business and what’s next for his restaurant group. Also co-owner of Sweet Georgia Brown in Greektown, Taylor is the recipient of numerous awards during his career, including his fifth consecutive Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator magazine.
“The Arthur L. Johnson Urban Perspectives Lecture Series is one of the many ways the alumni association offers alumni the opportunity to reconnect with the university while gaining new cultural insights,” says alumni association Executive Director Marguerite Rigby. “The series provides thoughtful and interesting commentaries on a wide range of subjects, such as politics, business, economics, law and the arts.”
The lecture begins at noon. It is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. Boxed lunches are $8 per person and may be pre-ordered when making reservations. For additional information or to make a reservation, call (313) 577-2300 or visit www.alumni.wayne.edu/events.
The Urban Perspectives Lecture Series began in 1992, and was named by the alumni association in 1995 to honor civil rights leader Dr. Arthur L. Johnson upon his retirement as vice president for university relations at Wayne State University. Recent speakers have included Susan Sherer, executive director of the Detroit Super Bowl XL Host Committee; David DiChiera, founder/director of the Michigan Opera Theatre; and Lerone Bennett Jr., executive editor of Ebony magazine.
The Wayne State University Alumni Association has been building loyalty and support among alumni for more than 70 years. No matter where they are in life or in the world, alumni association members stay connected through special events, personal and professional development, exclusive discounts, member-only publications and many other benefits.
