Wayne State University plans Nov. 11 minority supplier conference

Representatives of minority-owned companies will have an opportunity to learn more about how to do business with Wayne State University at the university's annual Minority Conference on Procurement set for Thursday, Nov. 11, 4-6 p.m. in the university's Student Center Building, 5221 Gullen Mall, Detroit.

Wayne State President Irvin D. Reid will welcome guests, and potential vendors are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity for one-to-one dialogue with the purchasing staff and other university representatives who initiate requests for goods and services.

"This conference is an example of Wayne State's commitment to the economic development of the Detroit metro area and it reaffirms the university's dedication to providing business opportunities to minority vendors in our community" says John Davis, vice president for finance and facilities management. "Encouraging diversity in its many aspects, including economic opportunity, has been very high on President Reid's list of initiatives since his arrival at Wayne State.

Joan Gossman, director of purchasing, points out that the annual conference gives minority entrepreneurs access to Wayne State's needs and its procurement process. "We, in turn, are able to get better acquainted with potential suppliers," she says.
