Wayne State fall student enrollment reaches highest total in a decade

DETROIT - With the largest freshman class in recent years, Wayne State University's fall student enrollment reached a 10-year high of 33,314 students.

The number of newly enrolled full-time undergraduate students has increased by 12.6 percent since fall 2003. The number of Hispanic first-time undergraduate students increased by 35 percent and the number of African-American first-time undergraduate students increased by 15 percent.

"We are delighted to see more students choosing Wayne State University," says Nancy S. Barrett, provost and senior vice president, academic affairs. "Our new first-year experience program, new residence halls for first- and second-year students, a greater emphasis on campus activities, and programs such as MedStart all have made our university an attractive destination for Michigan's best and brightest students."

Wayne State offers a world-class education in the real world, with more than 350 academic programs through 12 schools and colleges to more than 33,000 students in metropolitan Detroit.
