Versatile business leader heads Board of Visitors for Institute of Gerontology at Wayne State University

Agustin V. Arbulu of Birmingham has been named chairman of the Board of Visitors and executive chair of the capital campaign for the Institute of Gerontology at Wayne State University.

A management consultant and former chief executive officer and chairman of Horizon Healthcare Inc., Arbulu is a practicing attorney and a professor of management and strategy at Northwood University, where he teaches graduate courses in organizational performance, corporate strategy, leadership and international business.

As an attorney, he has represented corporate and individual clients at the local, national and international level. He also has served as CEO for a number of companies in the service and manufacturing industries.

"We are very fortunate that a person of Augie Arbulu's impressive background and talents has volunteered to lead our board and head our fund-raising initiative," said Peter Lichtenberg, director of the Institute of Gerontology. "With his broad experience in corporate leadership, particularly in the health care area, and his strong commitment to the institute's mission of research benefiting aging Americans, Augie will be a great asset."

Arbulu has served on the institute's board of visitors, a consulting body made up of volunteers, since 2003. He holds MBA degrees from Lawrence Technological University and from the American Graduate School of International Management. A graduate of the University of Detroit Law School, he has an advanced law degree from New York University Law School and a doctoral degree in management from Case Western Reserve University.

In conjunction with the university's broader capital campaign, the institute is embarking on a $7 million campaign to raise funds for research on aging.

Wayne State University is a premier institution of higher education offering more than 350 academic programs through 12 schools and colleges to more than 33,000 students in metropolitan Detroit.
