Wayne State University's Labor School accepting applications

Wayne State University's Labor School is accepting applications for fall semester which begins Sept. 28, 2004. There are no entrance requirements, grades or exams and classes are open to everyone.

Since 1967, the Labor School, a part of the College of Urban, Labor and Metropolitan Affairs (CULMA), has brought together people who share a common concern for the future of their workplace, their union and their community. Classes explore a full range of issues including: union stewards training, collective bargaining, health & safety, diversity, economics, media, member mobilization, history and communications.

The program, a non-credit, certificate program, has graduated more than 3,200 students since its inception. Labor School graduates wishing to continue their education are automatically admitted to Wayne State University without further education requirements or tests and may receive 10 general credit hours toward their degree.

Classes meet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Wayne State campus and Thursday evenings at UAW Region 1A, located at 9650 Telegraph Rd. in Taylor.

The Labor School is approved for tuition reimbursement programs at the UAW-Ford, GM and Daimler-Chrysler Training Centers. Scholarships are also available to qualified applicants. Admission to the Labor School is not denied due to an inability to pay.

New Student Orientation will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25, or Monday, Sept. 27. For more information call Michael Leslie, Labor School coordinator, at 313-577-2195 or 313-577-2191.
