The online auction allows WDET to fundraise without interruption to its award-winning programming and is a unique way to involve the community in the public radio experience. Many of the items up for bid are directly connected to WDET's on-air programming. For example, the auction will include a trip to Washington, D.C., to see a broadcast of NPR's Morning Edition and All Things Considered as well as numerous opportunities for listeners to meet their favorite WDET personalities.
"The online auction is an exciting new way to invite our listeners to connect with WDET, its personalities, and its programming," said WDET General Manager Caryn Mathes. "And the best part is that the online venue allows listeners to support the station at their own convenience without interrupting the programs they depend on and enjoy."
The auction features hundreds of distinctive items contributed by the station and its staff, NPR and Public Radio International (PRI), and local community partners. Beginning May 25th, the items - chosen specifically to reflect the values and interests of WDET listeners - can be previewed at wdetfm.org. Official online bidding will open on June 3rd and close on June 9th. In addition to personal experiences with WDET and NPR hosts, items up for bid include a bass guitar signed by Sting, a pair of round-trip tickets on Spirit Airlines and VIP tickets and backstage passes for the upcoming Ford Detroit International Jazz Festival.
