Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm to receive honorary doctoral degree from Wayne State

Who/What: Gov. Jennifer Granholm will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Wayne State University during commencement ceremonies at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11. Also receiving an honorary Doctor of Laws degree will be Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers union. Receiving Distinguished Alumni awards will be Daniel Angel, president of Marshall University, and Charlene Turner Johnson of Highland Park, who is co-founder and president of the Michigan Neighborhood Partnership. When: Thursday, Dec.11. The opening procession begins at 7:30 p.m. Where: Cobo Arena in downtown Detroit. Also Note: Two graduating seniors, Kurt Hunsanger of Sterling Heights and Viveka Borum of Warren will receive the prestigious David D. Henry Award. The award is given for outstanding contributions in the areas of leadership, service and student activities, consistent with high scholarship. There are approximately 3,400 students in the December graduating class.
