Glengarry Glen Ross is a story about small-time, cutthroat real estate salesmen who push plots of land on reluctant buyers in a never-ending scramble for their share of the American dream. The show reveals with brutal power the life of bitter men who wheel and deal for a piece of the action - where closing a sale can mean a brand new Cadillac and losing a sale can mean losing it all. Glengarry Glen Ross is a chillingly funny indictment of a world in which you are what you sell.
David Mamet is a contemporary playwright who uses forceful, realistic language in an attempt to display a corrupt world ready for radical change. Mamet's work often focuses on amoral business ethics to create the image of an emotional wasteland.
The Hilberry Theatre is proud to produce a contemporary piece with the depth and social commentary evident in Glengarry Glen Ross. "The show concerns deeply divided people who have one life at work with their peers, a very different life at home, and a third life when talking to clients," says director David Magidson. "Three lives, three vocabularies. Three views of the human transaction."
Glengarry Glen Ross will open on November 14, 2003 and continue in rotating repertory until January 31, 2004.
