Organization of Black Alumni announces 10th Annual Achievement Awards

Wayne State University's Organization of Black Alumni (OBA) will honor five African American alumni achievers Nov. 7 during its 10th Annual Achievement Awards. A reception at the McGregor Memorial Conference Center on campus begins at 6 p.m., followed by the awards program.

This year's honorees include: Col. Tadarial Sturdivant, director, Michigan State Police; Sharon Banks, press secretary to Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano; Stephen L. Farrow MD, John D. Dingell Dept. of Veterans Affairs Medical Center; Alicia Diaz, executive director, Shorebank Enterprise; and Willie G. Lipscomb, judge, 36th District Court.

Tickets are $50, with proceeds benefiting the Detroit Public High School Endowment Fund, a scholarship fund that provides minority public high school seniors with tuition assistance to attend Wayne State University. For more information or to make reservations call Alumni House at 313-577-2300.

OBA, in its 11th year as a WSU constituent group, provides excellent networking opportunities through many social, cultural and educational events, and a mentoring program. OBA co-sponsors the annual Wayne State University Black Convocation, an Afro-centric graduation celebration. OBA is proud of the fact that more African American students earn degrees at Wayne State University than any urban university, other than those institutions that are historically black.
