Hillberry Theatre presents Jackie and The Beanstalk

In keeping with the tradition of bringing quality children's summer theatre, Wayne State University's Hilberry Theatre will present a classic tale turned on its ear, Jackie and The Beanstalk, by Michelle Vacca. This timeless story is one for the whole family to enjoy. Jackie and The Beanstalk opens on June 26 and plays through July 11, with a final performance on Saturday July 12. All performances are at 10:30 am.

With nothing left in the cupboard, Jackie's mother sends her out to sell the cow, and what does Jackie return with? Six puny beans. Magic beans, according to the little man who made the trade with Jackie. Disappointed, Jackie's mom tosses them out the window. When a beanstalk grows in your back yard, what's a kid to do but climb it! Join Jackie for a climb into the sky, filled with fun, adventure, and of course a giant! Jackie and The Beanstalk Features Darrell Glasgow (Sterling Heights, MI) as Harold Fairdeal/Eggberta, Chris Hazlett (Detroit, MI) as Clarabelle, Sarah Korson (Pleasant Ridge, MI) as Jackie, Aaron Moore (Lincoln, NE) as Tyrone, Kelly Rossi (Sterling Heights, MI) as Mother, Julie Smelser (St. Clair, MI) as Brunhilde, and Lenora Whitecotton (Brownstown, MI) as Tillie.

Nancy Lipshultz, professor of voice for the Department of Theatre, will direct Jackie and The Beanstalk. Nancy has worked on such shows as King Lear at the Hilberry and A Moon for the Misbegotten at the Bonstelle; She has worked as an actor in New York, Chicago, and California. Jackie and The Beanstalk will be her directorial debut at the Hilberry Theatre.
