Leanne Cecile, a resident of Tecumseh, Ontario, and a third year pharmacy student in the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Wayne State University, won the Miss Universe Canada 2003 title Jan. 25 in Toronto. She is now preparing for a month long trip to Panama City, Panama, for the Miss Universe contest to be held in May and June.
Cecile has applied for a one-year leave from her studies at Wayne State to fulfill her obligations during her one-year reign representing Canada.
The former Miss Tecumseh and Miss Western Ontario plans to return to Wayne State to finish her Pharm. D. degree once her reign ends. The 25-year-old student already holds two undergraduate degrees - in science and education - from the University of Windsor.
Prizes awarded so far include a fur coat, expenses for a trip to Acapulco, Mexico, and the month-long Panama trip as well as an office in Toronto, clothing allowances and other perks.
